A game of International Draughts in progress

International Draughts国際ドラフツ

Draughts on a 10×10 board: men take backward, kings fly, and you must take the most you can.

Played on a ten-by-ten board in the Netherlands by about 1550, by the historian Arie van der Stoep's account, and with twenty men a side from the late seventeenth century. Its old name, Polish draughts, is said to follow a Dutch habit of calling any novel idea Polish. The FMJD, founded in 1947 by the French, Dutch, Belgian and Swiss federations, governs it worldwide; the rules here are the FMJD's official rules (Annex 1, 2018, and the Annexes of 2024).

Also known as Polish Draughts, International Checkers, Continental Draughts.

The object 目的

  • Leave the other side with no piece that can move: jump theirs off the board until none is left, or shut in whatever remains.
  • No lines and nothing placed after the start: every piece is down from the first move, and the whole game is in how they step and jump.
